Deadline: Mother’s Day (May 12) Diaper Drive
Our Spring hands-on mission project benefits Beth-El Farmworkers.

How many diapers did YOUR mother change? Do the math: 6/day x 365 x 2 yrs = 4,380 x how many kids? Honor your mother or mom figure with something that makes life a bit easier for these hard-working moms in Wimauma, served by Beth-El Ministries.
Larger sizes for toddlers are especially needed. CLICK HERE to go directly to Amazon with items conveniently listed. A donation box is in the foyer.
For monetary donations, please note “Diaper Drive” for checks, EasyTithe and Church Center.
Contact Nancy Corwin or the church office if you’d like to help: a driver (or two) may be needed to deliver diapers or coordinate pickup.

Adult Sunday Class Resumes
With Stories Ripped From the Headlines

Hang around after the Worship Service for coffee and a class from The Wired Word focused on what’s happening right now. Questions and Scripture lead to interesting discussions on how we look at current events through the lens of the Bible. All are welcome.

Please note that there will not be any Sunday School Classes on Mother’s Day, May 12.

Recap of Congregational Annual Meeting
April 28th, 2024

We heard from Kim Brannan about the wonderful new toys & dolls, circus tents & rugs … along with a new curriculum for our children’s Sunday School class.
Guy Bryant updated us on the Budget (copies may be requested from Treasurer Tony Brannan, Jr.).
A new tenant, Elevate Tampa Bay, has moved their offices onto the second floor. The Bungalow on Willow is sporting a much brighter look and is ready for a residential tenant.
The elevator renovation and repair and painting of the steeple are also part of Phase 1 of our building plan.

Fellowship Luncheon Feeds Five Thousand
(Ok, three dozen, but a real fun crowd!)

Sandwiches, salads and muy delicious desserts were enjoyed by young and old(er) alike following the Annual Meeting. Faith Pilafas had everyone involved with a “Will You Be My Neighbor” game and it was fun to just get to sit and visit with friends.

Many thanks to Mary Beth Freeman of the Membership Committee for coordinating this event and to those who brought food and helped with setup and teardown.

Ensuring a Safe Worship Experience

On Sunday, April 21, we had an incident with an unidentified visitor during our worship service. This man arrived after the service started, sat down in the sanctuary, and was not a problem through the sermon. During the offering he came forward and handed the pastor a piece of paper. The paper had the 10 Commandments written on one side and some gibberish on the other. Then he quietly left the building. Nothing happened. But it did raise some concerns.

At the meeting of the Administrative and Building Committee on Tuesday, April 23, the incident and how to respond was discussed. For the short run we will ensure that the Willow and Orleans doors are locked promptly at 10:00 am on Sunday. Further, we will ask the ushers to remain in the Narthex to keep an eye on the door. If there is reason to be concerned about someone we have a “panic” button in the Narthex that will activate the Tampa Police Department. We have also been in contact with the TPD about having an off-duty officer present during worship to help provide a more secure environment. There is a process for getting this person and we are pursuing it.

Long term, we have formed a Security Task Force consisting of a member of the Administrative and Building Committee (Josh Crum), the Worship Committee (Dek Wright), and a congregational member at large (Tony Brannan Sr). This group will work with the pastor to investigate best practices, formulate procedures, explore training opportunities, and discuss all possibilities for making our Sunday morning worship as secure as it can be.

We are taking all of this very seriously and ask for your patience and understanding as we move through this process.
