EVENTS & FELLOWSHIP
Celebrating our Children and your Favorite Team! Will there be a sea of Orange & Blue, Red & Black, Garnet & Gold, Scarlet & Gray or maybe Rays or Lightning Blue on Sunday?
During Worship, we will hear from Chris Bosworth, Faith Pilafas and Harriet Plyler … all speaking about new programs and changes kicking off the Fall church season.
Note these Upcoming Events!
Tue. Sept. 19 – New Life Group: This young adult dinner and Bible study meets the 3rd Tuesday. Check out the photo of the group from last month, and join in! Be alert for possible change of venue this month.
What Would John Jr. Drink at 5:30 on Sept. 30th?
Join him for a widely educational and enjoyable evening! The momentum is building: we already have 25 reservations for this fun (and educational) event? John Brannan, Jr., is a professional brewer at Green Bench Brewing in St. Petersburg, so he has much knowledge (and beer) to share. The event will be hosted by Kim Brannan, ever the teacher of all things church-y, who will enlighten us as to the history of beer in the lives of Monks and the Church.
The event is at Kim’s home, 5013 S Elberon St., 33611 (south of Gandy, near Bayshore). Parking is limited; please consider Uber or carpooling with friends!
Register soon on Church Center, or mark it on the Welcome Pad at church!
In Person Worship in the Sanctuary at 10 am Dek Wright, Ordained Elder
Marshall “Dek” Wright hails from the small New Jersey town of Shrewsbury (Exit 109) and has called Tampa home since 2018. A stay-at-home single father to three house plants, Dek works remotely as a technical writer for a California-based telecommunications company. Dek is an avid health and fitness enthusiast who enjoys working out and engaging in an assortment of outdoor activities. Dek’s hobbies include being a bandwagon Bolts fan, watching cooking shows that feature foods he will never, ever cook, nor eat, and regularly spending too much money at his local Publix.
Dek is a life-long Presbyterian and currently serves as an Elder for HPPC. Classes for Children and Adults at 11:00 following Worship.
The Session has scheduled a congregational meeting for Sunday, September 24, 11:30 am, in the Sanctuary. Why 11:30? Because, you will be treated to an entertaining and fun presentation that you absolutely will not want to miss (as we wait for the Moderator for the meeting to arrive from the church where he is preaching.)
The purpose of the meeting is to have the congregation elect a Nominating Committee for 2023. Nominations for the Nominating Committee will be made from the floor and must have the prior approval of the person being placed in nomination. The task of the Nominating Committee will be to place in nomination people to serve as Elders in the Class of 2026 and to serve on the 2024 Nominating Committee.
Adult Sunday Class 9/10 @ 11am
There was a story of heroism recently — a man who saved a mother and her daughter from the wildfires in Maui. Ironically, at about the same time, there was a review for a book that challenges the “toxic” war on masculinity. The odd juxtaposition of the heroism story and the book review has provided an opportunity to consider the matter of masculinity from a biblical perspective, so that will be the topic of our next class.
Join us to talk in the Meeting Room near the office!
Time for a touch of Fall?
Many people have commented on the wreaths that appeared on the Willow doors this summer, and how much they thought they added to the welcoming aspect of the church.
Is it time for someone to shop the deals at Big Lots, Home Goods or Marshalls and see if there are some wreaths with Fall colors that might welcome in a new Season?
If so, please save these for next summer: return these to the Office and they can likely find a home in the Christmas closet for reuse.
Whatever (and Whoever) It Takes!
Neither leaves, nor hurricanes, nor water leaks can keep volunteers Bryan Alspach, Kim Brannan and Bruce Orand from their NOT-appointed rounds of stepping up and doing whatever it takes.
Thank You! … to you and to all the other members who are working behind the scenes with vastly overloaded platters (plates are just not big enough) to help out in the life of HPPC. “For as in one body we have many members, and not all members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.” — Romans 12:4,5
