CHURCH NEWS

Here Come the Dingalings!

Introducing the all new, all singing, all dancing Tom and Hatty Lenfestey Memorial Junior Bell Choir, in full Technicolor, to be known as The Dingalings.

Using the Kristal Bell Method, children of all ages who merely have to know their colors, may join in the Dingaling Bell Choir. Even with only one practice, members simply ring their color bell when that color comes up on a card (held up by the leader), with the music accompaniment masking any small mistakes.

If the leaders get good enough at this not to be embarrassed, we may well have seasonal expansions to include grownups playing along with the children.

This might even be the embryonic beginnings of a real bell choir one day!

Changing Life Trajectories … that’s Elevate Tampa Bay

Elevate Tampa Bay, headquartered at Hyde Park Presbyterian Church, is excited to begin the new school year, building on their incredible success in their inaugural year of ‘23-‘24. Results included: 90% graduation rate (a significant increase), 85% reduction in absenteeism for Elevate kids, over 1000 hours of teaching and mentoring, dramatic decrease in discipline incidents, etc.

Elevate teacher mentors work in the public school classroom (currently Middleton High School, Sligh Middle School and three elementary schools) teaching a curriculum of 13 faith-based character qualities. The four-prong program (curriculum, mentoring, adventure, college/career) is comprehensive, and brings about transformational change in our kids … literally changing their life trajectories.

As Elevate expands its team and adds more classes, in the words of Jaraux Washington, Executive Director of Elevate Tampa Bay, “As we begin a new school year, I am reminded of the importance of dedicating our efforts to the LORD and trust in Him to guide and establish our plans for the year ahead. Anything without Him will fail, and if we stay connected, listen, and abide in His will, we will be unstoppable!”
