How Did We Get Our Sacred Scripture?
New Adult Study Begins This Sunday at 11:00

On Sunday, August 18th, we’ll embark upon a study led by our very own member Karla Grant, who has taught Bible Studies at HPPC for many years.

Session 1: What IS the Bible? In the beginning was the Word. John 1:1
Session 2: The Law, the Prophets and the Writings.
Session 3: How Did We Get the New Testament?
Session 4: How Did the New Testament Books Become the Official Canon? How did Christians differ from each other and the Jews about the official Old Testament Canon?
Session 5: How Reliable Are the Copies of Scriptures? How do we interpret Scripture that seems to contradict itself?
Session 6: Remember the DaVinci Codes? Heresies, Cults and Proto-Gospels and other mistaken concepts.

Join us for this deep dive into how the Bible came to be …  in the Conference Room each Sunday immediately following worship.

CHURCH NEWS

Thank You to for Helping Teachers & Students

Ann Maxey, co-chair of the Missions Ministry, is assisted by Ann Orand and Harriet and Margaux Plyler in loading up her car with donated supplies.  The school year will be a little easier for West Tampa Elementary!

Many thanks from the Missions Ministry for your continued generosity!

Summer Sunday School & Spectacular Adventures

Children’s ministry had an exciting summer! Lawn games, show and tell, superheroes, movie day, bubbles, water sliding, baking, and water balloon fights kept our kids busy all summer long. Thank you to our families and staff for making this summer so much fun!

Many, many thanks to Miss Faith for planning such creative fun!

“Taste and see that the Lord is good”

Pastor John Hougen brought the passage from Psalm 34:1-2,8 to life during the Children’s Time last Sunday. They tasted each color and then voted on their favorite.

I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. I will glory in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Taste and see that the Lord is good’ blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

Ringing in the New School Year!

This Sunday, August 18th, HPPC Ministry is ringing in the new school year for Christians of all ages! Children’s Sunday School will fall back into its usual time, 11am-12pm, and welcome Wilson Brannan into the elementary grade level; Harriet’s Thesbyterians will continue on their Ruth and Naomi play; and Karla Grant will kickstart a new Adult Sunday School class as well.

We will also be introducing our children’s ministry staff to the congregation. Finally, Harriet will help us officially ring in the new school year with a special donation. Join us to unveil the surprise!

Techy Opportunity!

This is seriously a great opportunity … it looks really impressively techy up there in the balcony!

The Tech Team (Bruce Orand & Marc Wallace) need volunteers to help with Sunday audio/video and streaming for the service. Training – invaluable and totally free – will be provided!!

Email your name, phone #, email address to TechTeam@hydeparkpres.com if you’re interested and for more details.
