Have you ever been in prison? Prison comes in many shapes and sizes … like when you think things can’t get any worse, and then another Hurricane hits. In prison, there is a complete lack of peace. Yet, when Paul is in prison in Philippi, he has peace. Why is that?CLICK HERE for your glimpse on our Facebook page.

CHURCH NEWS

Dec. 8th, the Second Sunday in Advent
THE CANDLE OF PEACELast Sunday we lit the candle of hope. This Sunday, we’ll light the second candle, the candle of peace. We light it because peace is elusive, and in some parts of our world it is almost completely absent.Yet in this season of Advent we trust that God is at work. God, always preparing something new. And even when there is conflict and discord, whether between countries, people, or even within our hearts, God is present, gently leading us to new possibilities.

Our prayer this week:
Loving God, in this time of preparation and planning, we thank you for the hope and peace you unfailingly offer us. Show us the creative power of hope. Teach us the peace that comes from justice. Prepare our hearts to be transformed by you that we may walk in the light of Christ.

Bring the Colors of the Season to the Sanctuary

Donate a poinsettia ($20 each) for the Christmas season. You may take it home after the Christmas Eve Candlelight service. Look for the fund “Poinsettia” in Church Center or through EasyTithe.

There are also order forms in the foyer at church and you can fold it up with cash or a check to HPPC noting Poinsettias.  Thank you!

Remember October?
Do I have to?
Ah yes, the aftermath of Helene. And was that Stewardship Month? October was really crazy for many of us, to say the least. Many members were not in their own homes. And the political junk mail that month! It is entirely possible that you might have overlooked (tossed? never got? buried somewhere in a pile?) your 3rd quarter Giving Statement that has the Hyde Park Pres Stewardship Letter and Pledge Form included?

It’s not too late! Just email finance@hydeparkpres.com (confidential with Rebecca our financial secretary) and it will be done! Or ask her to mail you another Pledge form and your statement.

Thank you for your generosity in giving to the life and work of Hyde Park Presbyterian!
