Dec. 1st, the First Sunday in Advent
THE CANDLE OF HOPEThe Gospel of John speaks of Christ as the true light coming into the world. We light candles the four weeks ahead of Christmas to remember and celebrate Jesus’ coming into our world and lives.

This is a deep and profound truth. Christ is coming. Jesus is always coming, always entering a troubled world, a wounded heart. This week, we light the first candle, the candle of hope, and dare to express our longing for peace, for healing, and the well-being of all creation.

Our prayer this week: Loving God, as we enter this Advent season, we open the dark places of our lives to the healing light of Jesus. Show us the creative power of hope. Prepare our hearts to be transformed by you so that we may walk in the light of Christ.

Dear Friends at HPPC,

Ann, Adam, and I wanted to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude for the overwhelming love and support we received from so many of you following the devastating hurricane Helene that wreaked havoc on our home. The outpouring of kindness and generosity we experienced was priceless and touched our hearts and souls in ways words cannot adequately express. From providing food and drink to the washing of our clothes, pots, pans, and dishes, your compassion and assistance were a beacon of hope during a challenging time. You have been a blessing to us, and we are forever grateful for your unwavering support.

Amidst the turmoil and challenges, we are delighted to share with you a silver lining that emerged from the storm. After residing in our beloved “starter house” for 28 years, circumstances forced us to seek a new home. We are thrilled to announce that we have recently closed on a beautiful house in the Lake Magdalen area. The best part? It is no longer located in a flood zone!  As you can imagine, starting afresh means we can decorate and furnish our new home from scratch. With most of our furniture washed away, we are excited to make our new house a warm and inviting space.

Once again, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to each member of the congregation for your unwavering support, prayers, and acts of kindness. Your love has been a source of strength and encouragement for us throughout this challenging period. We are truly blessed to be part of such a caring and compassionate community.

With sincere gratitude,
Bruce, Ann, and Adam Orand
