HURRICANE DAMAGE & PLAN
Roof Damage, Water Damage, Steeple Damage
and what’s being done. Called Session Meeting Mon. Oct. 14th

The meeting was opened with prayer and devotion. The damage from Hurricane Milton caused damage to two roofs, water damage upstairs and down, and the steeple cross.

Funds from FEMA are being applied for, the insurance company has been contacted and an adjuster spoken with, and quotes from two restoration companies are being procured. The adjuster admonished to document, document, document everything with photos, and an app that date stamps the photos was suggested. A meeting is also being set up with our contacts with InVision to be sure what we do short-term will fit in with the longterm plan.

A motion was passed to allow the Treasurer to access various available funds at his discretion (with a cap) to pay for repairs as needed now.

Elevate Tampa Bay will need to relocate to the prior game room as their space was damaged. Apollo Academy rooms were not affected.

Issues with the maglock on the Willow doors are being addressed; until it is fixed (hopefully by the weekend) a hard key will be needed. Please contact the office for status.

A discussion on this Saturday’s Hyde Park Pet Parade led to the decision to forego participation this year due to our church’s damage from the hurricane. We do not have the manpower to organize the troops for that event at this point.

The meeting was closed with prayer for the Corwin and Farrior families, as well as everyone dealing with storm damage.

Young Adult Dinner Turns into a Work Day!
Saturday Morning 9:00-Noon.The Young Adult Dinner Group cancelled dinner last Tuesday and turned the fellowship into a work day at the church Sat., 9-Noon. Bring various yard gear and gloves; there will be plenty to do for all skills! Thanks!

HPPC Disaster Emergency Fund

After Hurricane Helene, a disaster emergency fund was established for members in need. While still not huge, we have been able to respond in a small way to a few members. Please contact Kim Brannan, clerk of session, with any needs you may have.

If you would like to contribute to the Hyde Park Presbyterian fund for members, please indicate Disaster Emergency Fund on your check or through online giving.

After a Grand Tour of Tampa, Frozen Meals Are Saved!

We have food now! But it’s not at church. Now these delicious meals are residing in freezers at the “compound” of Waters, Crum, and Kline. They will migrate back to HPPC for easy access once the fridges and freezers are thoroughly cleaned (maybe by Sunday).

We have: chicken and rice casseroles, beef & cabbage on yellow rice, lentil soup, white chicken chili, pork BBQ and (maybe) Hawaiian rolls. Please text Lynda Waters (813-956-2739) if you would like to take them to someone (maybe yourelf); we’ll figure out logistics.

Thanks for cooking to: Marion Swartz, Annie Shipherd, Heather Shipherd, Sandy Kennedy, Mckenzie Smith, Lynda Waters, Jett Tanner, Sharon Smith, and Renee Gardner (photographer).

Session Devotional Oct. 14th

John shared a devotion based upon Esther, chapter 4. He reminded us that we never know what circumstances life will bring, and how we will need to respond, but God is always with us and does not forsake us. The two hurricanes, Helene and Milton, coming back-to-back, are reminders of this truth.

Pastries and Fellowship on
Stewardship Sunday, October 27th.
Plan on staying after Worship on Oct. 27 to catch up on how everyone – including HPPC – is doing after these back-to-back hurricanes. We know that everyone has a lot of “unwanted stuff” on their plate right now, so come and pile up a plate with tasty breakfast goodies, coffee and conversation!
