Back by popular demand, this spring HPPC is again offering the Ramsey Financial Peace University nine-lesson course using biblical wisdom and common sense to help you tackle budgeting, pay off debt, and build wealth.

The classes for this Bible-based plan, created by popular radio personality Dave Ramsey, will be led by our own Matt Vanture (HPPC elder) from 8 – 9:30pm for nine weeks, starting Wednesday, May 19, 2021. Connect with others just like you whom you can encourage and hold one another accountable and celebrate progress.

    Congregational Meeting held March 7

    – Clerk Jonathan Colbert declared a quorum with participants in person and via zoom; Rev. James Friesen opened the meeting with prayer.
    – Rev. James gave the Pastor’s Report, reflecting the changes due to the pandemic. While some might call 2020 a dumpster fire, he prefers to think of it as a refining fire. It was noted that our holiday seasons provided unique opportunities for the church to be visible in the community, and zoom small groups and classes had unexpected benefits as well. 42 Sermons, Morning Jam and Kid’s Church plus special services were recorded or live-streamed. Over 100 people participated in the Advent events, not counting the three Christmas Eve services. The HPPC Family Legacy Playground was fully funded, and the freezer is full of frozen meals that can be taken to those in need.
    – Treasurer Tony Brannan, Jr. shared the 2020 and 2021 Budgets. 2020 closed the year with a $25,700 deficit which must be carried over to the 2021 budget. The 2021 budget is $422,911, about $30,000 less than 2020 actuals.
    – Rev. James stepped out for the presentation of the Pastor’s Terms of Call. The motion to approve the Terms of Call was made and seconded. A question regarding the goal-setting process for the pastor was answered by Jonathan Colbert, chair of Personnel. The motion passed. James then rejoined the group and thanked the congregation for their vote of confidence.
    – Mark Steiner presented the committee structure for 2021, Rich Easterlin presented the roles and duties of the Session, some of the committees and Nancy Corwin presented the last few committee structures including Personnel/Nominating and Missions.
    – The meeting was closed with prayer.

The HPPC Family Legacy Playground was born across the sea in Odense, Denmark. The entire thing, complete with pirate ship, slides, swings, spinners and seesaws  … you name it … was loaded onto a cargo ship and set sail across the Atlantic. Check the HPPC website often as we track the the progress of our playground on its journey to the corner of Swann and Willow!

Time to Grow! and Don’t forget to RSVP To the Congregational Meeting!

Hello HPPC members and friends. It is no secret that 2020 has been a tumultuous year all around! Through these changing times, we have all learned how to be connected and experience growth in our lives in new ways. Much like you, HPPC is excited to see what 2021 has in store! We are so glad you are a part of this family and you are each a huge part of the growth planned for Hyde Park Presbyterian Church in 2021.

October is stewardship month; you should have received a packet of seeds, along with your pledge card, in the mail this week.  As you prayerfully consider your pledges, make a date to stop by the church to take action for new growth. On Swann Avenue, just to the right of the sanctuary by the white door, we have set up a planter. Please plant your seeds as a community in the planter box when you drop off your pledge card envelope. There is a mail slot in the door right behind the planter where you may drop your pledges.  Check out this video to see exactly where, and hear more about this project. You can also send your pledges in the mail if you are not able to stop by.

We will have a congregational meeting on November 8th in celebration of your 2021 gifts. It will be a time to share the exciting new growth God has planned for us in 2021 together. Don’t forget to RSVP!
